Obituary for Renee Mardini Renee Taweel Mardini of Brooklyn, NY passed unexpectedly at NY Presb Methodist Hospital on November 10, 2018. She would have turned 90 on December 12th. She was preceded in death by her husband, Nasri George Mardini.

Born in Mexico, she was raised in Haifa, Palestine, before marrying in 1952 and settling in Damascus, Syria. She and her family immigrated to America in 1961, residing in Park Slope, Brooklyn. Renee assimilated quickly to the new culture and continued to grow and adapt to the dynamic changes where at nearly 90, she was just as involved in technology, social media, music and current events as the next generation.

Renee was a loving wife, and mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend. A very spiritual person, she always placed the needs of others ahead of her own, and was someone whose company you cherished. Her home was open to one and all, where those willing to open their hearts at her kitchen table soon understood that they were in the company with one of this world’s great people who gave so much of herself in every way.

No crowd was too large and no person was too small. Mother to all, God’s gift to Renee was her ability to make those around her feel special from a spotlight that shined brightly from her heart. Renee was a fabulous cook, had a warm and welcoming home, was compassionate, understanding, had a comforting smile.

She will be deeply missed by anyone who had the fortune to meet or interact with her. She was a member of St. Nicholas Antiochian Orthodox Cathedral in Brooklyn and was an active member of the church choir. She was also a member of Hamelat El-Teeb, the church’s group of devoted and energetic women whose service is comes from love for the church and community.

In addition, she volunteered at Brooklyn Methodist Hospital for many years, where she recently received the Lifetime Volunteer Service Award. She was most devoted to spending as much time as possible with her family. Surviving are 8 children, Susan Mardini-Green and husband Jason, Nariman Mardini, Suheil Mardini, Diane Mardini, Clodette Mardini-Sabatelle and husband AJ, Robin Mardini-Adelson and husband Randy, Michael Mardini and wife Mary Lenz-Mardini and David Mardini.

Also surviving are 9 grandchildren, Amanda Sabatelle, Cristina Girgis, Jane Haddad, Diana Mardini-Ferreira and husband Jack, Jenna Mardini, Ivan Marks, Oliver Marks, Christian Mardini and Julia Mardini and 2 great grandchildren, Emma Ferreira and Olivia Ferreira.
