The funeral service will be held at 4:00 p.m. on Sunday, January 6, 2019, 2019 at Open Arms Ministries with Kevin Dowdy, Rev. Steve Comer and Rev. Randy Comer officiating.

Interment will be at Oak City Cemetery with Rev. Thompson’s sons-in-law and grandchildren serving as active pallbearers. The Men of Open Arms Ministries will serve as honorary pallbearers.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 7:30 p.m. on Saturday, January 5, 2019 at Ivey Funeral Home. Online visitors may sign the guest register at www. iveyfuneral.com.

Thompson was born March 18, 1944 in Moultrie, GA, the son of Oris and Margaret Hughes Thompson. He was a graduate of Colquitt County High School, Class of 1961 and attended Berean School of The Bible for three years.

Rev. Thompson was a bus driver for twelve years with Decatur County Schools and pastored Open Arms Ministries. Rev.

Thompson had a heart for ministry. He loved people, especially the children entrusted to his care daily, and he let them know it. He served churches in Florida, Alabama and Georgia and left a legacy of love in each place.

In his younger days, Rev. Thompson enjoyed golfing. He never missed a moment taking in the grandeur of creation whether he was fishing, camping, cruising on the open sea or simply sipping a cup of Folgers coffee during his quiet time.

Rev. Thompson was an avid Georgia Bulldogs fan and noted a “strong dislike” of Seminoles, Gators and most especially the Crimson Tide. Survivors include his wife of 56 years, Naomi Thompson; his children, Tammie Nettles and her husband, Stan, of Bainbridge, Tonya Thomason and her husband, Stephen, of Thomasville, Teresa Dodson and her husband, Brian, of Bainbridge, and Tim Thompson and his wife, Jessica, also of Bainbridge; his siblings, Delores Dell of Moultrie, Phil & Donna Thompson of Polk City, FL, and Joan Thompson of Moultrie; his grandchildren, Brent, Kendra, Devin, Britney, Justin, Christina, Amber, Chase, Cason, and Loghan Brooke; his great-grandchildren, Brooklyn, Addi, Skylan, Vada, Mia and Gus; and his beloved dog, Sambo.

Rev. Thompson was preceded in death by his parents.
