Obituary for Richard C. Butler Richard “Dick” Charles Butler, 83, passed away on Tuesday, July 10, 2018, in the comfort of his own home. Dick was born on October 17, 1934, in Oneida, the son of the late Ernest Peter and Mabel (Cater) Butler. He received his education at Oneida High School.
Dick was employed by Oneida Ltd. Silversmith for 34 years, retiring in 1997. He was a member of the Church of Our Lady of Lourdes. Dick was a devoted husband, caring dad and loving papa.
His thoughtfulness was evident in his kind and gentlemanly character. He loved the outdoors. Spending time boating, fishing and hunting were among his favorite pastimes.
Dick is survived by his wife of 37 years, Rose (Mary) Anken Butler; son, Richard Charles (Connie) Butler, II; twin granddaughters, Rainbow and Ruby Butler; sister, Marilyn Butler Dunbar; brother-in-law, William Rowe and “special daughter”, JoEllen (John) Nortz, all of Oneida. He also leaves nieces and nephews, Lillian Butler (Dave) Angulim, Nancy Butler Korsman, Diane Butler (Bill) Mullane, Cynthia Butler (Don) Barker, Ernest (Lori) Butler, Joseph (Heather) Tallman, Karen Dunbar (Dennis) Alvord, Margaret (Bill) Schoeneck, Gar (Lisa) Dunbar, Eric Rowe, Wesley (Maureen) Rowe, Alex (Char) Rowe. Also surviving are sister-in-law, Ann Anken (Robert Nora) and brothers-in-law, Fred Anken, Timothy (Lucille) Anken, niece, Samantha Anken (Chris) Gilcher, Nicholas Anken, David Anken and Brian (Anna) Anken and James (Michelle) Anken along with many great nieces and nephews and great-great nieces and nephews.
Dick was predeceased by his sister, Irene Butler Rowe and brothers, Ernest Robert Butler and Joseph Butler. Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated on Monday at 11:30 a.m. at the Church of Our Lady of Lourdes. Family will greet guests following the Mass.
Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, remembrances in Dick’s name may be made towards the purchase of a new electric organ at the Church of Our Lady of Lourdes. Envelopes will be available at the Mass.
The Butler family would like to thank Dr. Charles Eldredge for his professionalism and medical guidance over the years. In addition, they would like to thank the Dialysis Unit at Faxton campus for the care and compassion shown Dick during a difficult time. As well, they appreciate the kindness of the Visiting Nurse Association and Hospice & Palliative Care, Inc.
