Smith Richard Charles age 91 of Gibsonia, formerly of Spartanburg, SC and Monroeville passed away on Sunday, May 12, 2019. Beloved husband of Belle (Bickerton) Mann Smith and the late Barbara (Shear) Smith; loving father of Kimball (Nancy) Smith, Pamela (Paul) Knapp, Wendy (Rob) Lent, and the late Diana (surviving spouse, George) Oravec and Steven Smith; stepfather of Susan (Robert) Wisniewski, Roger Mann, and Karen Mann; grandfather of Kelly, Kyle, Kameron, Jason, Ryan, Jeffrey, Megan, Breanna, Connor, Andrew, Juli, the late Jessica; also survived by 11 great grandchildren. Dick was an Army Veteran, graduate of Cornell University and spent 29 years as Director of Industrial Relations for Mesta Machine Company.

After raising his family in Monroeville, he retired to South Carolina. He always had a very positive attitude, kept active, and lived life to the fullest. He enjoyed gardening, loved to cook, and played all sports, especially tennis, golf, volleyball, softball, bowling and swimming.

Later in life, he learned to scuba dive and traveled all over the Caribbean enjoying his love of the outdoors and exploring the ocean waters. His adventures also provided him the opportunity to explore other parts of the world, traveling to Europe, Australia, and Alaska. There will be no visitation or service.
