Richard Charles Smith December 15, 1949 – May 03, 2019 Share this obituary Sign Guestbook| Send Sympathy Card Richard “Dick” Charles Smith, 69, of Hayfield, MN passed away Friday May 3, 2019 in Blooming Prairie, MN. Dick was born in Carroll, Iowa on December 15, 1949 to Paul and Jane (Demurisse) Smith. He graduated from Hayfield High School in 1968.

After high school Dick joined the army and served from 1969-1971 in Germany. He married Sue Westin on January 7, 1971 and they later divorced. He married Arlene McGinley on June 5, 2004 in Hayfield, MN.

Dick worked for Dale Schmeling then later for the City of Hayfield maintenance department. After his retirement of 35 years he worked for Westfield Township grading roads until his death. He enjoyed many things including Go-Carts, tractors, camping, and motorcycles.

He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church and American Legion in Hayfield, MN. Dick is survived by is wife, Arlene; daughter’s, Ann (Jeff) Blossom and Sarah Smith both of Bloomington, MN; step-daughters, Shelly (Mark) Pritzl of Lake City, MN and Tracy (Marcus) Mitchell of Red Wing, MN; step-son, Marty (Jami) McGinley of Overland Park, KS; sister, Connie Eastman of Goodyear, AZ; twelve grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents, one brother and three sisters.

A memorial service for Dick will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday May 10, 2019 at the First Presbyterian Church, 109 East Main St Hayfield, MN 55940. Visitation will be from 4:00-7:00 p.m. Thursday May 9, 2019 at the Czaplewski Family Funeral Homes, 501 2nd St NW Hayfield, MN 55940 and one hour prior to the service at the church. Inurnment will be in Fairview Cemetery in Hayfield, MN with military honors provided by the Hayfield American Legion.
