Richard Arthur Decko was born August 13, 1933, in Rochester, MN, the son of Robert and Ethel (Ramey) Decko. Dick grew up and began attending school in St. Paul, MN. He completed his schooling in Alexandria, MN where he has continued to reside throughout his life.

Dick enlisted in the United States Navy and served in Korea during the Korean War. After four years with the navy, Dick returned to Alexandria. On December 26, 1951 Dick was united in marriage to Janet Prchal.

The couple was blessed with two children, Steve and Sue. Dick worked at many different jobs in the Alexandria area; he ran a taxi service, a bait shop, a brake lining service and worked as a supervisor for Bellanca Aircraft and Graco Manufacturing. Later in life, he managed a bed & breakfast and drove a van for the Developmental Achievement Center.

At age fifty-seven Dick considered himself semi-retired. Dick enjoyed fishing in the summer and winter; he loved catching sunfish and walleyes. He spent time with Steve hunting grouse, ducks and deer.

On of his favorite pastimes was playing golf with his friends and family. At age eighty-one, Dick scored a hole-in-one at Miltona Golf Club. Dick was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the American Legion.

On Wednesday, March 20, 2019, Dick died at the age of eighty-five years. He was preceded in death by his parents; and one brother, Doniven Decko. Dick is survived by his wife, Janet Decko of Alexandria; son Steve Decko and wife, Kelly, of Carlos, MN; daughter, Sue Decko of Alexandria; grandsons, Jeremy and Daniel Decko; sister, Doris Dau; one aunt; and several cousins, nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held 11 AM Monday, March 25, 2019 at the Anderson Funeral Home in Alexandria. Reverend Wayne Erickson will officiate. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.

Interment will follow in the Evergreen Cemetery at Alexandria. Arrangements are with the Anderson Funeral Home.
