Richard was born on November 3rd, 1939 in Clinton, IA to parents Robert M. Brown and Iola F. Hartnett. He grew up mainly in Peoria, IL and St, Charles, IL. At age 18, he joined the Army and trained as a paratrooper in the 101st Airborne Division in Ft.

Campbell, KY. He was sent to France and assigned to the Signal Corps at the Bussac Army Base, located near Bordeaux. His tour of duty was extended until 1962 due to the Berlin Wall conflict.

While in Bussac, he met his wife, Simone Edery. They raised their twin daughters in Toledo, OH before moving to Arlington Heights, IL. Richard worked for B.F. Goodrich and Goodyear as a giant tire specialist before starting his own business, Giant Tyreworks.

In 1996, Richard and Simone moved to Safety Harbor, FL, a community he loved. His passion was running. He ran in all the races he could enter, including the Boston Marathon.

He loved sports, and was a lifelong fan of the Chicago Bears, Cubs, Bulls and Blackhawks. He loved watching French movies, feeding the ducks on his pond and looking after his pet cockatiel, Buster. Richard is survived by Simone, his wife of 56 years, loving daughters Rebecca Peyton and Theresa Brown, grandsons Grant and Reed Peyton, granddaughter London Gracey, sons-in law Lee Peyton and Chris Gracey.

He is also survived by his brother Rodney Brown ,sister Kathleen Brown, as well as numerous nieces, nephews and extended family. A private service will be held at the Florida National Cemetery in Bushnell, Florida, where he will be buried with full military honors. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital.
