Obituary for Richard Alderete Richard T. Alderete, 77, passed away on Tuesday, December 18, 2018, at his home. Richard, also known as “Rooster” or “El Gallo”, was born on April 14, 1941 to Elias and Isabel Alderete. He joined the military at seventeen.

Richard volunteered and served in the United States Army 82nd Airborne Infantry for six years, (1958-1964). He was honorably discharged with the rank of Sergeant. He was always very proud of serving his country.

After being discharged from the military, he was employed by the United States Postal Service, where he rose from mail handler to supervisor of mails and was acting director of mail processing. Retiring with 31 years of service. During his career with the United States Postal Service, he met and married his beloved wife Dolores “Lolita” Barela.

Richard is survived by his children Josie Sheldon (Rodney), Richard D. Alderete (Sarah), Michelle Alderete, and Mark “Boogie” Alderete. His grandchildren, Tabitha Sheldon, Richard P. Alderete III, Rochelle Alderete, Reanna Guardiola (Eddie), and Robert Alderete. Two Great grandchildren, Matthew Reyes and Brandon Allison.

Two Sisters Lydia Herrera and Romelia A. Eres (Luis) and two brothers Daniel T. Alderete and Raymon T. Alderete (Nancy). He is preceded in death by his adored wife Dolores “Lolita” Alderete, his parents Elias and Isabel Alderete and older brother Elias T. Alderete Jr. A visitation will begin at 9:30 am on Saturday, December 22, 2018 at Getz Funeral Home, 1410 E. Bowman, Las Cruces, NM 88001with a memorial service to begin at 10:00 am. Burial will follow at Masonic Cemetery, 760 S. Compress Rd.

Las Cruces, NM 88001. Pallbearers will be Richard D. Alderete, Rodney J. Sheldon, Richard P. Alderete III, Robert Alderete, Paul Barraza, and Colonel Luis R. Eres, USA, Retired. Honorary Pallbearers will Matthew Reyes, Victor A. Eres, Master Sergeant Richard A. Eres, USMC, Retired and Lawrence D. Eres.
