Richar Wstrangfeld , June 05, 1941 — February 07, 2019

Richard William Strangfeld of Ramsey, NJ passed away peacefully on February 7, 2019 at the age of 77 surrounded by his loving family. Richard was born June 5, 1941 in Suffern, NY to the late Richard and Anna Strangfeld. He graduated from Ramsey High School and Fairleigh Dickinson University.

After college, Richard was a long-time employee of ITT Marlow Pumps in Midland Park. His true love, however, was serving the community of Ramsey and the surrounding areas. Richard was a volunteer firefighter for 57 years rising to the rank of chief.

He was also a founding member and chief of Ramsey Rescue and was deeply involved in mutual aid in Bergen County. Loving to share the firefighting knowledge he had acquired over the years, he trained many of the men and women now protecting the people of Ramsey and the surrounding communities. Richard was also deeply committed to teaching the children of Ramsey the importance of fire safety and often spoke of his experiences interacting with those he had taught.

“I can’t tell you how many times I’ve been walking on Main Street when I pass a mother and child and I hear the child say, ‘Mommy – see that man? He’s a fireman, and he came to my school to teach me about fire safety! ’ Some call me Fireman Rich and others Chief”.

Richard is survived by his loving family including his daughter Dawn (Michael), his brother James (Diane), and two granddaughters Kaitlyn and Morgan. He is also survived by a son Richard. Visitation will be held on Friday, February 15, 2019 from 2-4 & 7-9 PM at the Van Emburgh-Sneider-Pernice Funeral Home, 109 Darlington Ave, Ramsey, NJ.

A funeral service will be celebrated on Saturday, February 16, 2019 at 10 AM at the Lutheran Church of the Redeemer, 55 Wyckoff Ave, Ramsey, NJ where Richard was a long-time parishioner. Interment will follow at Redeemer Cemetery, 90 Chapel Rd, Mahwah, NJ. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made in Richard’s memory to Ramsey Fire Department, Public Education Team, P.O. Box 164, Ramsey, NJ 07446.
