Obituary for Rita Howe Reta Howe, beloved wife, mother and grandmother, passed away peacefully at her home on the evening of July 7, 2018 at the age of 95. Reta is survived by her husband of 62 years, Donald B. Howe, daughter Suzanne (John), son Donald (Ann) and grandsons Matthew, Jeffrey and Brandon. Reta was born July 25, 1922, the eldest daughter of 5 children, Reta, Roy, Anna, Phyllis and Sondra and grew up on Cherry Street in Danville, PA.

Reta graduated from Geisinger School of Nursing in 1942. She moved to New York City to practice as an R.N. at New York General Hospital and private duty. She moved to California in 1954, where she met her to be husband and married in 1956, moving to Santa Barbara, CA, where she worked as a nurse at Cottage Hospital for over 40 years.

Reta was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church and part of the Altar Guild and a member of Cappa Alba (a retired nurses organization). The family wishes to thank Reta’s caregivers Rose Quirido and the staff and nurses of Hospice Visiting Nurses of Santa Barbara. Their combined wonderful care provided Reta with comfort and compassion during her final stage of life.

Reta brought a lot of caring to those who knew her, love to her family and will be sorely missed.
