Robert H. “Bob” Long, 83, of Derry died Friday January 11, 2019 in the Baylor Scott &White Medical Center, Grapevine, Texas. He was born May 28, 1935 in Johnstown the son of the late Norbert P. and Gertrude Martin Long. Bob graduated Johnstown Catholic High School (now Bishop McCort) in 1953 and in 1960 graduated from the University of Pittsburgh earning a BS in Civil Engineering.

Bob was a U.S. Army veteran having served during the Korean Conflict. Bob was a Registered Professional Engineer in the states of Florida and Pennsylvania. Bob worked as a Construction Project Manager and Estimator for local General Building Contractors Gamble & Gamble, Inc., George Danko, Inc

He also served as a corporate officer for Gray Construction Services and P.F. Long Construction Co., Inc. For many years he had worked for Thomas R. Harley-Architects in Indiana as a civil amd structural engineering design consultant. Bob served as Committee Member for BSA Troop #340 in Derry where his sons Christopher Long and Michael Long both earned the rank of Eagle Scout. Bob was a member of St. Joseph Roman Catholic Church of Derry where he served faithfully and helped however he could.

He was also a member and past Grand Knight of the Knights of Columbus St. Joseph Council 2648, past president of the Holy Name Society, and the Parish Council. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his loving wife of over 56 years Margaret L. “Margie” Kondas Long. Bob is survived by his daughter Juliann Vidaurri (Celso III) of Arlington, Texas.

His three sons; Paul Long (Arleen) of Bailey Colorado, Michael Long (Elizabeth) of Broomfield, Colorado and Christopher Long (Janice) of Arlington, Virginia. A brother Louis Long (Emma) of Blairsville, and two sisters; Sr. Mary Norbert SC of Greensburg and Betty Wechtenhiser (Vern) of Latrobe. He has nine grandchildren as well as several nieces and nephews.

Friends will be received Sunday January 20, 2019 from 2-4 and 6-8pm in the McCabe Funeral Home, 300 W. Third Avenue, Derry. A funeral mass will be celebrated Monday at 10am in the St. Joseph Roman Catholic Church of Derry with the Rev. Father Salvatore R. Lamendola as celebrant.

Interment will follow in the St. Joseph Church Cemetery. Knight’s of Columbus will conduct a service Sunday at 5:30pm in the funeral home. Online condolences may be made to www.
