Obituary – Robert Otis Barton Robert Otis Barton, age 86, formerly of Grand River, Iowa, the son of Glen Arthur and Esther Elizabeth (Smith) Barton, was born March 9, 1932, in Leon, Iowa. He died at Lamoni Specialty Care Center in Lamoni, Iowa on Friday, December 28, 2018. Bob grew up at the High Point, Iowa area in Decatur County.

He attended school in Leon, Iowa and graduated in 1950. After graduation he farmed before enlisting in the United States Army on August 8, 1952. … Read More » He served until July 16, 1954, with part of the time being in France during the Korean Conflict.

Bob returned to farming working for his future wife’s father, whom he met and instantly knew he was going to marry her. He and Suellen Pickering were married on June 9, 1963 in Grand River, Iowa. They were blessed with four children, Robert “Bob”, Ryan, Regina, and Rena.

He retired in the mid 1990’s. In his free time, he enjoyed mushroom hunting, doing anything mechanical, woodworking – building chairs for his grandchildren, reading western books, and working jigsaw puzzles. He loved his dog, Worthless, who went everywhere with him.

Bob was a member of the Grand River American Legion and the Grand River First Responders. Preceding him in death were his parents; wife, Sue in February of 1999; son, Bob in July of 1995; brothers, Bill and George Barton; sister, Jean Courtney and husband, Clarence; and brothers-in-law, Lester “Red” Robison and Richard Christensen. Survivors include his children, Ryan Barton of Kellerton, Iowa, Regina Peter of Waterford, Wisconsin, and Rena and Matt Gotto of Belleville, Illinois; 11 grandchildren; nine great grandchildren; siblings, June Robison of Leon, Iowa, Hope and Bob Mendenhall of Garden Grove, Iowa, Margaret Christensen of Carlisle, Iowa, and Lester and Anne Barton of Chandler, Arizona; sisters-in-law, Mary Barton of Des Moines, Iowa and Karen Barton of Osceola, Iowa; nieces and nephews; and other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be held at the Slade – O’Donnell Funeral Home in Leon, Iowa at 2 p.m. Monday, December 31, 2018, with Pastor Rick Hawkins officiating. Burial will be in the Grand River Cemetery, Grand River, Iowa.
