Obituary for Robert “Bobby” Brown Jr. Kennebunkport, ME Robert H. Brown Jr., 91 years, a well-known excavating Contractor, Realtor, and former Selectman for Town of Kennebunkport, ME died Saturday, September 8, 2018 in a tragic accident. Mr. Brown was born in Lynn, Mass. June 2, 1927 a son of the late Robert H. and Mildred Louise Morgan Brown Sr

He attended Kennebunk Schools and enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps during World War II and was stationed in China. He received his diploma following the War. He delivered fish locally and to the Boston Markets during his early years along with an ice business.

He then owned and operated the ESSO Station in Kennebunk Lower Village for several years along with delivering oil in the community. Following this he formed the R. H. Brown Inc. excavating company in Kennebunkport, which is well known in York County and Southern Maine. He also became a Real Estate Broker and Developer in Kennebunkport, developing such projects as Elizabethan Drive, Cleaves Woods, and Oakwood Drive, along with several other projects in the Kennebunk’s.

For the past several years he has wintered at his residence in Dunedin, Florida. Robert was a member of Arundel Lodge of Masons in Kennebunkport, The Maine Consistory Valley of Portland 32 degree , Kora Shrine of Lewiston, and the York County Shrine Club. He was a former member of the Kennebunk Rotary Club and a Paul Harris Fellow.

He served three terms as Selectman for the Town of Kennebunkport and Trustee of the Kennebunk Savings Bank for ten years, a member of the Kennebunkport Village volunteer Fire Department, a member of the highway building committee and the Kennebunkport town building committee. His hobbies included being a licensed private pilot, gardening, and spending time with friends and family. When asked to what he attributed his success, he stated that hard work, the game of Monopoly and the fact that he liked to keep busy were key factors.

He was predeceased by a brother Richard Brown. He is survived by his wife of over thirty five years, Carolyn (Copenhaver) Brown of Kennebunkport and Dunedin, FL; two Daughters, Diane Brown of King of Prussia, PA and Brenda Phillips and her husband Boyd of Kennebunk; two grandchildren, Christopher Phillips and his wife Heidi and Ross Phillips and his wife Anna, all of Kennebunk; two great-grandchildren, Jacksen and Isla-Rose Phillips, and several nieces and nephews. There are no visiting hours.

A Memorial Services will be held at 1:30 PM on Friday, September 14, 2018 at the South Congregational Church, 2 North Street, Kennebunkport with the Reverend Charles Whiston officiating. Interment will be private in Hope Cemetery, Kennebunk.
