Robert James Duquette, 89, of Longmeadow, passed away on July 20, 2018. Born and raised in Springfield, he was the son of the late Archie and Helen (Doyle) Duquette and graduated from Cathedral High School in 1947 where he met his future wife, Pat. While at Cathedral, he was also honored to be selected by the Springfield Sunday Republican in 1946 as the starting centerfielder for the High School All-City team.

He served his country in the U.S. Army and was stationed in Seoul, South Korea during the Korean War. When he returned home from military service, he was hired by the Springfield Parks and Recreation Department where he worked for 39 years. He leaves his wife of 65 years, Patricia M. (Winters) Duquette, and three sons: Robert J. Jr. and his wife Christine of North Attleborough, Timothy J. and his wife Kathleen of Longmeadow, and Dennis P. of Springfield.

He leaves five grandchildren: Bobby and his wife Heather, Daniel, Brendan, Christopher and Katie Duquette, and one great granddaughter, Quinn Duquette. He also leaves a sister, Mary Trembley and a brother, William Duquette, both of Springfield along with several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brother Thomas Duquette and his sister Helen Brown.

He lived a great and happy life filled with laughter and a tremendous love of his faith, family, friends and country. The family would like to say a special thank you to Marine Lt. Col.

Bennett Walsh and the entire staff of the Soldiers’ Home in Holyoke for the tremendous, loving care they gave to Bob in his final days. The calling hours will be Tuesday, July 24th, from 4-7 PM at the WILBRAHAM FUNERAL HOME, 2551 Boston Road, Wilbraham. There will be a Funeral Mass Wed.

, July 25th, at 11 AM at the Sacred Heart Church in Springfield. The burial will follow at the Longmeadow Cemetery, Williams Street, Longmeadow. In lieu of flowers, donations in Bob’s memory may be made to the Sacred Heart Church Renovation Fund, 395 Chestnut Street, Springfield MA 01104 or to the City of Spfld.
