FERNANDES, Robert J, 80, formerly of West Warwick, passed away Wednesday morning, May 8, 2019 at Riverview Healthcare Community, Coventry. He was the beloved husband of the late Louise T. (Silva) Fernandes. Born in Warwick, he was the son of the late Manuel Fernandes and Rose (Josephs) Fernandes-Costa.

He resided in West Warwick for most of his life. Mr. Fernandes was employed as a warehouse manager at Valley Lace in Hope for many years until retiring and previously worked at Kenyon Piece and Dye for over 20 years. He enjoyed playing cards especially high low jack.

As an avid Red Sox fan he always thought that a Queen Elizabeth would come to Fenway and throw out the first pitch. After he lost his sight he still continued to go bowling, fishing and woodworking projects. He is survived by several cousins, Donald J. Christy of Warwick, Richard D. Christy of Myrtle Beach, SC, Dennis A. Christy of Coventry, Janice L. Dauphinee of North Attleboro MA, Russell J. Christy of Newport Richie, FL and Mary Lou Schweikart of Warwick.

Visitation will be held Monday, May 13, 2019 from 9:00-10:00 a.m. in the PRATA-GALLOGLY Funeral Home, 78 Providence Street, West Warwick followed by a funeral home service at 10:00 a.m. Interment will be in Notre Dame Cemetery, West Warwick.
