Obituary for Robert W. Krause Robert W. Krause, age 91, of Berlin passed away July 1, 2018, at the Montello Care Center. Robert was born in Berlin, Wisconsin in the early morning hours on June 6, 1927 to Otto and Ella Krause. Since his time of birth was shortly after midnight, his birth certificate was mistakenly printed as June 5, 1927.
It was never corrected and this sometimes caused much confusion concerning official documents. However, Robert enjoyed celebrating his birthday for two days every year. On September 9, 1951, Robert married Betty R. Lange and they were blessed with five children.
Robert served in the Army National Guard from 1948 to 1958 as a radio operator. In the early 1950’s, Robert was employed at Spangler’s Bakery in Berlin. He was responsible for having the first loaves of bread in the ovens by 5:00 a.m. Some years later he worked at Hudson Manufacturing in Oshkosh as a machinist for more than 30 years.
He also worked at Johnson Fortnum in Berlin for several years transporting and detailing vehicles. While Robert was semi-retired, he was employed at Mascoutin Transportation as a bus driver for children with special needs. Robert was an automobile enthusiast.
He loved to look at cars as well as drive them. He enjoyed going to car shows including the annual Iola car show when he was able. He could tell you where just about every highway was in the whole state and rarely used a map to go anywhere.
He was an avid reader of the Oshkosh Northwestern and usually read it from front to back on a daily basis. Robert is survived by his five children: Dale Krause of Berlin, Gary (Denise) Krause of Princeton, James (Kristin) Krause of Beaver Dam, David (Justine) Krause of Omro, and Susan (Richard) Kemnitz of Montello. He is also survived by seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Robert is preceded in death by his wife Betty. Funeral services will be held at Wiecki-Skipchak Funeral Home in Berlin on Friday, July 6, 2018, at 3:00 p.m. with Pastor Tom Mickelson officiating. Visitation will be at the funeral home from 1:00 p.m. until the time of service.
