Robert W. Van Der Loop, age 89, passed away Monday, December 31, 2018 at Cherry Meadows Hospice in Appleton after spending a week surrounded by his loving family. He was born on March 6, 1929 to the late Peter and Emma (Lucassen) Van Der Loop. On June 23, 1951, he married the love of his life, the late Jean (Getschow) Van Der Loop.

Robert accepted Jesus as his personal Savior and his relationship with the Lord was very important to him. Robert was an active member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, Appleton. Robert served with the U.S. Army in Panama and San Diego from 1951 to 1953.

Robert owned and operated a Western Auto and Radio Shack store in Seymour, WI and finished his career working in logistics for American National Can. During retirement, Robert and Jean spent 18 years residing half the year in Florida until Jean’s death in 2016. Robert enjoyed reading, puzzles, playing cards and other games including Monday night Bingo.

His greatest enjoyment was spending time with his family and friends, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He is survived by his children; Timothy (Jolene), Appleton, Lynn Cottrell, Oshkosh, Sara (fiancé David Hall) Thomas, Manawa, WI, and Mary (Jay) Kraft, Caledonia, WI, his grandchildren; Nathan Van Der Loop, Brianna (Jim) Ring, Dylan Van Der Loop, Gavin Van Der Loop, Alson Cottrell, Shauna Cottrell, Ambyre (Kyle) Calmes, Eric Thomas, Zachary (Kimberly) Thomas, Santria Kraft and Michael Kraft and twelve great grandchildren. Robert is further survived by brothers; William Van Der Loop and Ray (Sandy) Van Der Loop, sister-in-law; Barb Van Der Loop, as well as numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Robert is preceded in death by his wife of almost 65 years, Jean, his brother, Eugene Van Der Loop, his sister and brother-in-law, Bernice (Gerald) Ashauer and his sister-in-law, Joyce Van Der Loop. A funeral liturgy for Robert will be held at 10:30 AM, Monday, January 7, 2019 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 410 W. Lawrence Street, Appleton, with Fr. Jim Leary OFM CAP officiating.

Visitation will be held from 9:00 to 10:15 AM at the church on Monday, with military honors to follow the funeral liturgy. The family wishes to extend a special thank you to the Cherry Meadows Hospice staff for the care and compassion shown to Robert and his family.
