Rodney “Jay” Owens, 54, of Phenix City, AL passed away late Wednesday, January 30, 2019 into the presence of our Lord and Savior while surrounded by his loving family at St. Francis Hospital in Columbus, GA A celebration of life service will be held at 3:00 pm EST on Saturday, February 2, 2019 at Vance Brooks Funeral Home in Phenix City with Pastor Mike Childs officiating. The family will receive friends on Saturday from 2:00 to 3:00 pm EST, one hour prior to the service at the funeral home in Phenix City. Jay was born July 20, 1964 in Columbus, GA to Patti Edge Caines and the late Ewell H. Corky Owens.

He had worked most of his life as an independent contractor and for the past several years worked with Ronnie Smith Auto Sales in Phenix City. He enjoyed the outdoors, fishing and hunting, and loved witnessing for Jesus and winning souls for Heaven. He loved spending quality time with all his family and friends sharing fellowship.

He was a Pentecostal by faith and attended the River of Columbus Church. Other than his father, he was preceded in death by a brother, Dausie Grissett. He is survived by his mother, Patti Edge Caines and husband, and step-father, Walter Caines, whom loved Jay like a son, his loving and devoted wife, Lynn Smith Owens of Phenix City, AL, one son, Javas Owens of Phenix City, AL, step-daughter, Anna Martin and husband Thomas of Phenix City, AL, two sisters, Joey Janney, and Lisa Stengele , both of Columbus, GA, one brother, Lane Owens of Chattanooga, TN, two precious grandchildren, Waylon Martin, and Winston Martin, a very special niece, Kassie King and husband David, and nephew, Jeffery Owens and wife Ashley, numerous other loving family members, and a host of many friends.
