Binegar, SMSGT, USAF, ret. Roger Dean, 85, of Springfield died Friday, January 11, 2019, following a brief illness. He was born November 9, 1933, in Greene County, Ohio, the son of Robert E. and Gladys (Rankin) Binegar, and was a Springfield resident since 1945.

Roger was a Korean War veteran, having enlisted in the U. S. Air Force in 1950 at the age of 17. Following his Honorable Discharge in 1954, he joined the Air Force Reserves, and began a thirty-five year career in the Department of Air Force Civil Service. Roger served in many capacities on the Flight Line at several area Air Bases, retiring as a Senior Master Sergeant.

Among his many duties, he was in charge of the Logistical Management of the Dayton Air Show for many years. Roger was also a Little League coach for ten years with the Noon Optimist’s League at Perrin Woods School, starting in 1968. He is survived by his wife of sixty-four years, Patricia (Whaley) Binegar; two children Roger K. (Debi) Binegar of Eaton Rapids, MI, and Kelly A. Binegar, of Springfield; two grandchildren Gretchen M. (Scott) Gaudard, and Michael K. (Stephanie) Binegar; four great-grandchildren Isaiah, Mikaela, Grace, and Nathaniel; sisters-in-law Marjorie (Richard) Hodge, and Donna Whaley, both of Springfield; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

He is preceded in death by his parents, step-mother, Beatrice Binegar, and sister, Jean Martin. Visitation will be Tuesday from 4:00 – 7:00 pm in the RICHARDS, RAFF & DUNBAR MEMORIAL HOME. The service to honor Roger’s life will be Wednesday at 11:00 am in the Memorial Home with Pastor Steve Flack officiating.

Burial will follow in Silver Creek Cemetery, Jamestown, OH, with full Military Honors. Memorial contributions may be made in Roger’s name to the American Cancer Society. Expressions of sympathy may be made at www.
