Obituary for Roland Shannon Roland J. Shannon died suddenly from natural causes at his home in Atlantic City on Wednesday, December 5, 2018 at the age of 65. He was born on October, 27 1953 in Teaneck, New Jersey, the son of Roland J. and Leonie (née Engel) Shannon. Roland was proud to serve his country as a Marine earning the rank of Lance Corporal.
He was also an accomplished diver, marksman, and avid reader. His sometimes gruff exterior could not hide his good heart which was evident through his relationships and his love for the many pets that he cared for over his lifetime. He was a member of the Atlantic City, NJ Stage Hand Union IATSE Local 917.
His fellow Union brothers and sisters were more than co-workers. They formed a tight knit community that became his family. Roland was preceded in death by his parents and two siblings: his brother Martin Shannon and sister Janice Shannon.
He is survived by two nieces. A service will be held in the spring when Roland will be interred at the Atlantic County Veterans Cemetery in Estell Manor, New Jersey. An announcement of the time and date will be placed in The Press of Atlantic City closer to the date of the service.
