A Rosary for Rolando Vargas Sr., 43, of Lufkin, will be held Tuesday, May 14, 2019 at 1:00 p.m. at Shafer Funeral Home in Lufkin with Fr. Guillermo Gabriel-Maisonet officiating. Funeral services will follow the Rosary.

Mr. Vargas was born February 25, 1976 in Piedras Negras, Mexico, the son of Alejo Vargas and Graciela (Chairez) Vargas, and died Saturday, May 11, 2019 in Lufkin. Mr. Vargas loved his family and people. He enjoyed listening to music and cooking out.

Mr. Vargas was a member of St. Andrew the Apostle Catholic Church in Lufkin. He is survived by his wife, Laura Vargas of Lufkin; daughter, Vanessa Vargas of Lufkin; son, Rolando Vargas Jr. of Lufkin; son and daughter-in-law, Felipe Romelio and Maritza Vargas of Lufkin; daughter, Chloe Starr Vargas of Lufkin; granddaughter, Isabella “Stormie” Vargas of Lufkin; honorary granddaughter, Hailey Solis of Lufkin; goddaughters, Aimee Vargas, and Aly Esparza of Lufkin; brother, Felipe Vargas; sister, Rosa Vargas; brother and sister-in-law, Sergio and Linda Vargas; sister, Veronica Alvarez; sister, Yolanda Espinoza; sister, Elizabeth Juarez; along with numerous nieces and nephews. Mr. Vargas was preceded in death by his parents, Alejo and Graciela Vargas; brother, Manuel Vargas; brothers-in-law, Romelio Esparza Jr., Ruben Esparza, and Julio Esparza.

Honorary pallbearers will be Reney Esparza, Alejo Vargas, Orlando Espinoza, Aimee Vargas, Raul Perez, and Mario Ramirez. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, May 14, 2019 from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. prior to the funeral service. Cremation arrangements are under the direction of Shafer Funeral Home, Lufkin directors.
