Ronald Arthur Bauer, age 73, of LaGrange passed peacefully Friday May 3, 2019 at his home surrounded by family. He was born Elyria, raised in North Ridgeville and had resided in LaGrange for 46 years. Ron served in the United States Army from 1965 – 1967 in Germany during the Vietnam War.

Then went on to serve on the North Ridgeville Police Department for 33 years. He implemented various youth programs through the creation of the Youth Bureau, including Safety Town, school re program and diversion program. He was one of the most decorated officers in the history of the department.

In addition to serving in every position, he was most well known as being an investigator and retiring as Chief in 2001. He was a member of FOP Lodge 25 and the Ohio Police Chief Association. In his retirement, he enjoyed restoring antique cars, volunteering in the community and traveling to Colorado with the love of his life, Janet, where they spent time exploring, hiking, and four wheeling.

He also enjoyed camping and spending time with family and friends. Above all, he was a loved family man that was a mentor, teacher and leader to many. Survivors include his wife of 51 years, Janet (nee Bement) Bauer, daughter Andrea (Mark) Smith of Denver; brother Michael (Jeanette) Bauer of Statesville, North Carolina; many nieces and nephews including Brad Bement and Shelley Sullinger with whom he was especially close; friends, family and loved ones.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Arthur and Rita Bauer; sisters, Sandy Hiller and Patricia Sullinger and uncle, Jim Barnes Friends may call Sunday from 2-5PM at the Bogner Family Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 36625 Center Ridge Road where a prayers service will be held on Monday at 9:30AM followed by a 10AM Mass at St. Peter Catholic Church, 35777 Center Ridge Road, North Ridgeville. Rev. Bob Franco, Pastor, will be the celebrant.

North Ridgeville Police Honor Guard and VFW Post 9871 and will conduct honors at the church. Memorial contributions are suggested to the National Kidney Foundation www. kidney.org or Prostate Cancer Foundation www.
