YOUNGSTOWN– Ronald C. Potraffke, 84, passed away peacefully on May 18, 2019 at the Oasis Center for Rehabilitation and Healing. Ron was born on July 9, 1934 in Cincinnati, a son of Edward and Catherine Hamant Potraffke. He was a Korean War veteran of the United States Navy, having served from 1952 to 1955.

After he returned from his service, he went to work at the Cincinnati Post Times Star (currently known as the Enquirer), then as a typesetter for the Cleveland Plain Dealer, and once he moved to Youngstown, he worked for the Vindicator. He also was employed with Syro Steel in Girard. In his younger years, Ron enjoyed golfing and bowling.

He was an avid Cincinnati Bengals and Reds fan. Every year he kept track of all the players during the draft in hopes that his team would choose the best players for upcoming season. His wife, Yvonne, was a Cleveland fan and every year they would dress up in their sports attire when both teams were in a head-to-head game.

The love they had for each other was evident beyond those moments of sports. Ron leaves behind to cherish his memory, his children, Deborah “Debbie” Terrago of Hubbard, Ronald G. Potraffke of Cincinnati, and Teresa G. Potraffke-Scalf of Cincinnati, 7 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren, and 1 great great grandchild, his brother David Potraffke of Cleveland, his good friend John Meigs from his time spent in the service, and his canine companion, Daisy. Other than his parents, he was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Yvonne Griffith-Potraffke, and a brother, Steven Potraffke.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to Sheri Hufnagel, who provided Ron with not only compassionate care when he needed it, but also became like a family member and trusted friend. Her dedication to his health and well-being will never be forgotten. Per Ron’s wishes, there will be no calling hours or services.

The family has entrusted his care to the Kubina-Yuhasz-Wasko Funeral Home. Visit www. waskofamily.com to view the obituary and send the family condolences.
