Obituary of Ronald Briggs Ronald Edward Briggs, 76, of Fulton, died on Saturday, October 20, 2018 at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Syracuse surrounded by family. Born in Syracuse on August 10, 1942, he was the son of the late Thomas E. “Ed” Briggs and Catherine H. Clinton Briggs. Ron was a graduate of St. Mary’s Catholic School in Fulton, Oswego Catholic High School and had attended St. Bonaventure University.
He began his career in the sales department at Sealright Packaging Company and worked in sales for many years. He was offered a new position with Sealright in their Philadelphia office and served there briefly with his wife by his side before returning home to the Fulton office. Ron was later promoted to a warehouse supervisor in the shipping department and remained with the company after it was purchased by Huhtamaki, retiring in 2004 after 40 years of service.
Ron was proud of his family, his Irish heritage and his beloved Boston Red Sox. He was a history buff and a Civil War enthusiast who participated with the North South Skirmish Association as a member of the 149th NYS Volunteer Infantry Regiment and the 8th Texas Cavalry in several Civil War competition shooting events with black powder musket and carbine. Ron enjoyed traveling to Gettysburg, PA and to Maine.
He was a former volunteer with Fulton Junior Baseball. Ron loved animals especially his dogs Sam and Buddy, a good cup of black coffee and cherished spending time with his family. He was predeceased by his father, PFC Thomas E. “Ed” Briggs who was killed during the Battle of the Ruhr in Germany in April 1945 and by his mother, Catherine in 2014.
Having lost his father as a young boy, Ron was extremely proud later in life to have learned more about his father’s military service and to correct his father’s monument in St. Mary’s Cemetery so that it could accurately reflect his service to our country during World War II. Surviving are his beloved wife of 51 years, Anita Waugh Briggs; sons, Thomas E. Briggs II and Robert (Michelle) Briggs; grandchildren, Robert Waugh Briggs and Claire Michelle Briggs; brother in law, Harold (Mary) Waugh as well as nieces, Marci Waugh and Erin (Paul) Brewster all of Fulton. Calling hours are from 3 to 7 p.m. on Friday, October 26 at Foster Funeral Home, 910 Fay Street in Fulton.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 9:30 a.m. on Saturday, October 27 at Holy Trinity Parish, corner of Rochester and South Third Streets in Fulton. Burial will follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery on South Seventh Street, Fulton. In remembrance of Ron, donations are encouraged to PAWS Across Oswego County, 2035 County Route 1, Oswego, NY 13126.
