OBITUARY Rosa Lee Cassata January 1, 1916 – December 2, 2018 Rosa Lee Cassata was born on January 1, 1916 – passed away on December 2, 2018. Rosa Lee Cassata, the first-born child to John and Lucia Cassata passed away peacefully Sunday, December 2, 2018 at her residence at the age of 102. The last remaining member of her family, Rosie was a lifelong Dallas resident and member of St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church.
Rosie was a strong, determined woman, passionate for her family, which included her siblings and their descendants. She was deeply proud of their accomplishments and even though she never married or experienced motherhood, she was like a mother to her brother and sisters, shepherding them all along the way. Since her parents were Italian immigrants and her mother could not speak English, Rosie took it upon herself to make sure they were enrolled in school and accomplished all they needed to complete their education.
If one was suffering, she was suffering. She constantly inquired how they were doing, out of a deep sense of love and thanksgiving for their presence in the family. From the very beginning, Rosie worked hard to achieve goals.
When her father lost the family fish market business because of the Great Depression, it was Rosie who took on numerous jobs to help pay the taxes, so they would not foreclose on their home. Her greatest joy was working for Sears and Roebuck for 42 years. She felt honored to be a part of such a great company and had numerous lifelong relationships from those wonderful years.
Rosie achieved the level of supervisor with many employees under her direction. She was a wizard at the comptometer. Rosie never had the opportunity to attend college, but that didn’t stop her thirst for knowledge.
She was an avid reader. It was not unusual for Rosie to tell you what she had recently read and for you to listen to what she had to say. Learning was fun and woven into her unique personality.
Rosie had a deep faith in God and after experiencing the Great Depression, World War II and other hardships in life, God was her constant for strength and protection. For Rosie it was God + family + YOU working hard to get through life’s tumultuous times. Rosie was extremely blessed to have the love and care of the very best caregivers.
The family is eternally grateful to Emilia LeGallo, Karen Cabuco, Lillian Smith, Amor Slack, and Nelia Rainey. These girls always worked beautifully together with the focus of keeping Miss Rosie comfortable, happy, clean and most importantly, loved. Rosie is survived by her sister-in-law, Nita Cassata and the following nieces and nephews: Carol Ann Schultz, Rosemary Interrante, Joann Interrante, Paul Cassata, Judy Strange Harrison, Mary Schultz Truss, Debbie Cassata, Marie Cassata Jennings, and Anthony Interrante.
