Clifton Park – Rose Ann Maloney, 75, of the Malta at HighPointe Sr. Apartments passed away Thursday, March 14th, 2019 at Ellis Hospital after a long illness. Born June 2, 1943in Schenectady, NY she was a 1961 graduate of Mont Pleasant High School and also from the Austin Beauty School. A long time resident of Clifton Park, NY, Rose Ann worked for Shenendehowa School District for over 30 years.
She was the first female custodian in 1974, paving the way for women to enter a traditionally male dominated occupation. But her favorite job during her tenure at Shenendehowa Schools was the position of transportation monitor for special needs children. She received great joy in educational and playful interactions to help focus the childrens’ attention for the long bus rides.
She received great satisfaction from her responsibility for the safety and well being of the children. These are the same qualities that made her a loveable mother, grandmother and great grandmother. Rose Ann also worked in retail for many years at both K-mart and Boscov’s in Clifton Park.
She enjoyed meeting and helping people with their shopping needs. This was more of a hobby than a job for her and many of the people she met became great friends. Rose Ann’s family and friends meant the world to her.
She loved reminiscing about her travels and Caribbean cruises. One of the joys in life was to coordinate gatherings and social events for family and friends. She looked forward to Mario’s Pizza and Pasta parties and bingo with her community at Malta at Highpoint Senior Apartments.
Her husband, James A. Maloney Sr., whom she married on November 22, 1964, passed away on June 4, 2006. Survivors include her children; James A. (Stephanie) Maloney of Mechanicsville, Virginia, Joyce (Nicholas) Pavelchak of Knox, NY and Michael (Maria) Maloney of Ballston Lake, NY.
