Baxter (nee Mullins) 95, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on Thursday evening, January 3, 2019 at her home in Wood-Ridge. Born on June 25, 1923 to the late John and Teresa Mullins. A 1941 graduate of Hasbrouck Heights High School, she was Senior Class Treasurer.

Rosemarie joined the United States Navy Waves in 1943. She served as a Pharmacist Mate. She was voted Most Photogenic by the servicemen of the USS O’Bannon.

Rosemarie was very proud of her time in the Navy and in 1995, she received a long-awaited commendation from then President William Clinton. Dedications to her service are located in Veterans Square on Terrace Avenue in Hasbrouck Heights as well as the Women’s War Memorial in Washington, DC. During the Vietnam War, Rosemarie was instrumental in enacting legislation (with Senator Joelson) to provide death benefits to soldiers killed in combat.

Mrs. Baxter retired from a 20 year career as an Assistant Teacher in the Paterson School District at School No. 9. Rosemarie was a parishioner of Corpus Christi R.C. Church in Hasbrouck Heights.

She is survived by her four children Virginia Baxter Chandless, Fred G. Baxter, George Baxter and Rosalind Baxter Hine and her son-in-law Douglas Hine. She is survived by 11 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren and one great great grandchild. Her brothers, Patrick and Melvin Mullins and a sister Helen Hill all predeceased her.

Funeral from Costa Memorial Home Boulevard and Central Ave. Hasbrouck Heights on Monday, January 7th at 9 AM. Funeral Liturgy from Corpus Christi R.C. Church at 10 AM.

Interment following at St. Mary’s Cemetery, Saddle Brook. Visitation Sunday, January 6th from 2-6 PM at the funeral home. “The future belongs to those who believe in the beauty of their dreams”.
