“Loving mother, grandmother, sister & educator” Rosetta Holmes Hines, age 78, of Prospect, passed away peacefully on Sunday, October 21, 2018 at her home surrounded by her loving family. She was the beloved wife of the late Jeter W. Hines. Rosetta was born on June 5, 1940 in Hartsville, SC a daughter of the late Ulysses, Sr. and Evelyn (Rivers) Holmes and was a graduate of Butler High School in Hartsville.

She earned her Bachelor’s Degree from South Carolina State University, Master’s Degree from Central CT State University and Sixth Year Certificate from Southern CT State University. Rosetta was a lifelong educator with the City of Waterbury. A majority of her career was spent at Kennedy High School where she retired after 35 years having served as Head of the Business Department and acting Vice Principal.

She was a faithful member of Mt. Olive A.M.E. Zion Church where she was a member of the Senior Usher Board, Chairperson for Womens Day, a Class Leader, and a member of the Scholarship Committee. She was a member of the Calisto Chapter #4 Order of the Eastern Star and the Prospect Senior Center.

Rosetta leaves her daughters, Sonja Elliott and her husband, Willie; Dawn Hall and her husband, Franz; three grandchildren, Aisha Rose Elliott, W. Bryan Elliott III, and Jayden Anthony Hall. She also leaves her sister, Dr. Cora Reed of Jacksonville, FL and sisters-in-law, Rosetta Williams and Nancy Hines both of Greensboro, NC. Additionally she leaves several cousins, nieces, nephews, her church family, and a host of friends.

She was predeceased by her brothers, Ulysses Holmes, Jr., Marion Holmes and Charles Sidney Holmes and a sister, Joynella Bevel. Arrangements: Calling hours will be held on Friday evening from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Chase Parkway Memorial/The Albini Family Funeral Home, 430 Chase Parkway, Waterbury, CT. Her funeral service will be held on Saturday, October 27, 2018 at 10:00 a.m. at Mt.

Olive A.M.E. Zion Church, 82-100 Pearl St., Waterbury, CT. Please meet directly at the church. Burial will follow at New Pine Grove Cemetery.

Memorial donations in Rosetta’s name may be made to the Mt. Olive AME Zion Church Scholarship Fund.
