OBITUARY Roy L Elledge March 31, 1935 – January 27, 2019 Roy Lee Elledge, Jr., passed away peacefully on Sunday the 27th of January 2019. He was born on the 31st of March 1935. Roy was a native Houstonian and attended Poe Elementary, Lanier Jr. High and San Jacinto High School.
He attended Del Mar Junior College and University of Houston. Roy was self-employed in the real estate broker field for over 60 years. He was a member of Second Baptist Church and his civic associations included, Rotary Club of Houston member for 57 years, Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo for 51 years serving as a Lifetime Vice President, Steer Auction, Corral Club, Speakers, Commercial Exhibits and Magazine Committees and was a member FUJIGM.
Roy loved his time in Tejas Vaqueros, Salt Grass Trail Ride and the family with The Magnificent Wagon 7. Roy was a Director of the Downtown YMCA where he enjoyed playing handball for 45 years. He was also honored to serve on the Harris County Grand Jury for 5 ninety day terms.
His other love was the Band of Brothers of the former San Jacinto football players from 1952 – 1954. Roy is preceded in death by his parents Mr. and Mrs. Roy Lee Elledge, Sr. of Houston, Texas. He is survived by his sister Maryanne Lemons of Plano, Texas, his daughter Kathryn Merritt of Jonestown, Texas, his step children Barkley Wedemeyer and wife Lori, Brett Baker and wife Marsha, Brenda Stubbs and husband Joe, all of Houston, Texas.
Roy leaves behind 12 grandchildren and eight great grandchildren, and two nephews. The family would like to give special thanks to the wonderful loving caretakers who cared for their father the last year of his life. Friends are cordially invited to gather with the family and share remembrances of Roy during a reception to be held from six o’clock in the evening until eight o’clock in the evening, on Wednedsay, the 30th of January, in the grand foyer of Geo.
H. Lewis & Sons, 1010 Bering Drive in Houston. A memorial service and celebration of his life is to be conducted at ten o’clock in the morning on Thursday, the 31st of January at St. Francis Episcopal Church, 345 Piney Point Road in Houston In lieu of customary remembrances, the family would appreciate that any memorial contributions be directed to the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo Educational Fund, Attn: Jamie Voskamp, P.O.
