ROY NELSON POWELL June 15, 1960 – December 16, 2018 Roy Nelson Powell, 58, of Vero Beach, Florida, passed away on Sunday, December 16th, 2018. Roy was born on June 15, 1960 in Columbus, OH, however he was a true Yooper, raised in Newberry, MI, graduating from Newberry High School in 1978. Roy married Mary Krivan Powell in 2004 and together they raised five kids, Thomas Flinn, Jr. (Caitlin), Joseph Powell (Rachel), Christy Flinn, William Powell and Lindsay Powell.

“Grandpa Goat” leaves as his legacy four grandchildren, Mason, Emma, Carter, and Wyatt. He also leaves to cherish his memory his mother Ramona MacPhee, and four siblings: Robert Powell (Cheryl), Rhonda Strong (Kirk), Rebecca Hunt (Dan) and Joseph MacPhee (Sandy) as well as their children. Roy was a Navy and Army veteran before becoming a Mechanical Engineer.

He worked as Power Plant Superintendent in Vero Beach. He then worked as Start-up Manager building new power plants in several states. He served during 9/11 on the Emergency Crisis Response Team, assigned to restoring the power on Wall Street.

After leaving the power industry, he followed his lifelong dream of driving a forklift for Walmart. A visitation is scheduled for Friday, December 21, 2018 from 4pm-7pm. The funeral service will be Saturday, December 22, 2018 at 2pm.

Both will be held at Strunk Funeral Home. 916 17th Street, Vero Beach, FL 32960. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Gabriel House of Care at www.
