Born in Kohala, he was a retired Chief Warrant Officer, maintenance supervisor and mechanic with the Hawaii Army National Guard, member of the Honpa Hongwanji Hilo Betsuin, American Legion Post #3, Disabled American Veterans Chapter 6, Big Island National Guard Retirees Association, National Association of Retired Federal Employees Chapter 2126 and veteran of the U.S. Army during World War II, Korean War and Vietnam War.

Friends may call 10–11 a.m. Sunday (May 19, 2019) at Dodo Mortuary Chapel; memorial service at 11. Casual attire. Survived by daughters, Terilyn (Dean) Kubo of Hilo, Ly-Ann (Shoji) Takemura of Saitama, Japan; brother, Harry Hinokawa of San Francisco, California; caregiver, Carlina Fernandez of Hilo; one grandson, numerous nieces & nephews.
