Russell Edward McLendon February 21, 1951 ~ May 30, 2018 Our beloved husband, father, papa, and brother, Russell Edward McLendon, 67, of Roy died peacefully at his home, Wednesday, May 30, 2018, after a long battle with cancer. He was born 21 February 1951 in Ogden, Utah a son of Elmer Edward McLendon and Elaine Oram. He grew up in Ogden and went to Ben Lomond High School.

Russ served in the US Army, Utah National Guard and attended Weber State College. He was a mechanic for AB Hadley’s, a machinist for Jetway and was in maintenance for the LDS Church at the Print Center where he had great friends. He married his first wife, Rebecca Henstra on 26 March 1969 in Plain City, Utah.

They are the parents of three children, Christine, Russell and Shannon. Russ married Renee Barnett on 25 November 1995 in Riverdale, Utah that was later solemnized in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. He is the step-father to Amanda, Crista, and Andrew.

He was a hard worker and was dependable. He had a funny sense of humor and liked to tease. He was a good provider for his family and was able to build and fix anything.

In the early 70’s he boxed in the Golden Glove organization in the lightweight division and boxed against someone who went to the Olympics. His opponent didn’t knock him out. He was proud of that.

Russ loved America, and you knew where he stood on issues of the day. He loved Country Western dancing and won several awards with his wife, Rebecca. He liked to do his family history, attend gun shows, collecting coins, fishing and camping.

At one time, he and his wife, Renee had a small farm where they had cows, goats, and chickens. That was very fulfilling for him. He was a member of the LDS church and served in several callings.

His favorite was being in the nursery with the small children. Russ loved his family. Surviving are his wife, Renee; children Christine Hadfield, Rus (Julie Wilson) McLendon; Shannon Cook (Chris Blowers); Amanda (Matt) Petersen, Crista Joy and Andrew (Whitney) Joy; 16 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren.

Also surviving is a sister, Teresa (Michael) Robertson, brother, Mike (Beverly) McLendon and a sister, Nancy McLendon Daly. He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Debbie Robbins. We wish to express our gratitude to the wonderful nurses at the Cancer Infusion Center at McKay-Dee Hospital for the excellent care and compassion Russ received.

Also, the people from Legacy Homecare and Hospice, Tyler, Sydney and Mike for the wonderful care and compassion through this difficult time. Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, June 1, 2018 at the Ben Lomond Cemetery, 526 East 2850 North.
