OBITUARY Ruth E. Pontin September 9, 1920 – December 10, 2018 Ruth Elizabeth Pontin, 98 Waterville – Ruth Pontin, 98, passed away on December 10, 2018 at Lakewood Continuing Care Center in Waterville, Maine. She was born on September 9, 1920, in Arlington, Massachusetts, the daughter of Chester E. and Katherine (Parent) Hoyt. She attended Arlington schools and was a secretary for a short time at the John Hancock Insurance Company in Boston.

Ruth met Ray S. Pontin at a Halloween party and two years later he proposed. They were married in Arlington on July 4, 1942, just one day before Ray was sent overseas for WW2. After the war, they lived in Watertown and later in South Weymouth, Massachusetts where Ruth was home raising their two children In 1959 Ray’s work moved them to South Portland, Maine and then a short time later to Waterville.

For many years Ruth cared for both her and Ray’s parents who also moved to Waterville until their deaths in the late seventies. After 56 years together Ray died in 1998. Ruth had a friendly outgoing personality and had many friends.

She was always scheming and planning parties and activities with “The Girls”. She was fortunate to have so many dear and wonderful friends. She will be missed by the family she leaves behind.

They are: her daughter, Janet Hamilton and her husband Carl in Old Town, Maine; her granddaughter, Kate, also in Old Town and her great-granddaughters: Carlee, Myrah, Lilly and Michelle; as well as one great-great-grandson, Dayton; her son, Ray Jr. and his wife Sylvane in Waterville, Maine; her grandson Aaron and his wife Erin and her great-great-granddaughter Cora in Farmingdale, Maine. The family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to Ruth’s second family at Lakewood Continuing Care Center. All of you gave Ruth a warm and loving home for the last eight years.

A time of gathering and visitation will be held from 1:30 – 3:00 pm on Wednesday December 19, 2018 at Redington Funeral Home, 5 Park Street, Waterville. Burial will be in Pine Grove Cemetery, 88 Grove Street, Waterville, in the spring of 2019. Please visit www.
