Ruth Sommerlot, age 89 of Parkersburg, formerly of Waterloo, went to be with the Lord on February 28, 2019 at Parker Place Retirement Community in Parkersburg. Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 AM on Tuesday, March 5, 2019 at Greenhill Baptist Church in Cedar Falls. Visitation will be held Monday from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Greenhill Baptist Church 4316 Cedar Heights Dr. Cedar Falls, Iowa 50613 and will continue for one hour prior to services at the church on Tuesday.

Burial will be held at Garden of Memories in Waterloo. Memorials may be directed to the family and online condolences may be left at www. abelsfuneralhomes.com Ruth was born December 15, 1929 in Marshalltown, Iowa to Eli and Madge (Smith) Manz.

She graduated from Albion High School in 1948 and attended Northwestern Bible College in Minneapolis. She was united in marriage to Dale Sommerlot on August 12, 1951 at the Chapel Church in Green Mountain. He died in 2009.

Ruth was a member of Greenhill Baptist Church in Cedar Falls where she taught Sunday school and was a mentor to many. She loved the Lord and her family. She taught her children to love and have faith in God.

She was a strong prayer warrior. She loved children, flowers, birds, music and mowing lawn. She loved to encourage people by sending cards and flowers.

Ruth and Dale served the Lord faithfully together mowing the church yard and working at the Cedar Falls Bible conference and helping others. She will be missed by her 5 children; Maureen (Glen) Wiley of St Anthony, Delvin (Renee) Sommerlot and Kent (Christena) Sommerlot all of Dunkerton; Mel (Darwin) Engelkes of Wellsburg and Michelle (Joe) Campbell of Waterloo; one brother Maurice (Darlene) Manz of Marshalltown; a brother-in-law Richard (Ramona) Sommerlot and a sister-in-law Sharon Sommerlot all of Marshalltown; 12 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Ruth was preceded in death by her husband, parents, one great grandson Emmett Hansen; step mother Aliene Manz; brother and sister-in-laws Robert (JoAnne) Sommerlot, Max Sommerlot, Wilfred “Bill” (Mavis) Sommerlot, Keith (Jimmy) Sommerlot, Leon Sommerlot.
