Ruth’s Obituary Ruth Tucker Brown, age 72, passed into Spirit Life on March 7, 2019, following a brief and unexpected illness. Cremation has taken place. Ruth was born October 7, 1946 in Fort Monmouth N.J., to parents Leslie L. and Hope T. Brown.

Both of whom preceded her in death. Ruth’s interests were clear from an early age: Horses, dogs, art, nature, gardening, music, reading and photography. Exploring the many paths to Spirit and Enlightenment.

An independent, imaginative and adventures woman, she liked sharing her knowledge and experiences with others. She had a natural curiosity and passion for life, and a loving and generous heart. Ruth’s early years as an “Air Force Brat” took her to the Canal Zone of Panama; Tacoma, Washington; Frankfurt, Germany; Keflavik, Iceland; and Wurtsmith A.F.B., Michigan.

But the family roots were in Eatontown, New Jersey. In 1956 her only sister, Christina Hope was born to compete the Brown Family unit. While in New Jersey Ruth studied and created Art, learned dog training skills and honed her gardening abilities.

In 1968 she convinced the family to move to rural North Central Pennsylvania to begin a “Back to the Land” lifestyle. We had a small farm near Wellsboro where we raised goats, had riding horses and many other critters. Ruth also trained dogs, did leatherwork and carved leather art.

Again in 1975 Ruth initiated another family move this time to the Southwest United States. In an old blue Malibu with her dog Fleck, she drove from Pennsylvania to Santa Fe, New Mexico, and the rest of us soon followed. This began a 43-year love affair with the Land of Enchantment.

Settling in Santa Fe and later Tesuque as a full-time caretaker for three estates, Ruth stayed busy giving Art lessons, creating beautiful paintings, raising and training horses and learning all about New Mexico’s fascinating history and gorgeous landscapes. In 1996 she joined her sister Chris in the Chimayo area, where her activities expanded to painting beautiful rocks of people’s pets while continuing her efforts to rescue at-risk animals, especially dogs. But fate called her elsewhere and in 2002 she relocated here to Raton to care for her aging parents.

The people of Raton came to know Ruth and appreciate her bright attitude, since of humor and creative talents she happily took on the hard work of improving the family home and yard, making the property into a virtual nature habitat. Through her Art lessons and rock painting she made many wonderful friends that she cherished. Always very involved with supporting The Raton Humane Society, Ruth also helped organize her area Neighborhood Watch Organization.

Ruth truly loved the Wild Western Landscapes that surround Raton and especially enjoyed Lake Maloya and Vermejo Park. Gone to soon, she will be missed by many, but now her soul is free to begin her next life, May God His Son and The Mother Goddess light her way. Heartfelt thanks to the Raton Nursing and Rehabilitation Center – Katherine, Kelley, Mark, Dolores, Desiree and staff, whose kindness and care during Ruth’s last days was exemplary, much gratitude to Victor and Vince Alderette – Alderette-Pomeroy Funeral Home for their patient and caring help.

Very special thanks to Sarah, Janna, Katherine, Izzy, Charles, Kathleen, Holly, Elena, George and Alberta, Thayla, Penny Sue, and all Ruth’s friends and neighbors for their love and support. Ruth Tucker Brown is survived by her sister, Christina Hope Brown, and her dog children, Meg and Lady. In lieu of flowers, please send any donations in her name to The Raton Humane Society or The Arthur Johnson Memorial Library.

A Memorial Event will be announced for early May to share Memories and Celebrate her life.
