Sandy’s Obituary Sandy Haberichter arrived in the world on October 12, 1945 in Burlington, Iowa – a gift to her parents, Lloyd and Roberta Haberichter. She graduated from Burlington High School in 1963 and went on to attend Burlington Community College between 1964 and 1966. She married Jerry Ashmore on April 8, 1972, and they made a home in Lake Station where they raised their daughter, Jane.

Sandy became an indispensable part of the First Unitarian family when she and Jerry became members on January 9, 1983. She served in various roles in the church, including as a member of the board, but will be remembered most for her warmth, and her welcoming embrace of everyone who stepped through the door. No matter what was going on in her own life – and the two-year battle with the cancer that finally took her life was no exception – she always cared deeply about what was happening in the lives of others.

Sandy will be remembered for her generosity of spirit, her loyalty, her strength, and her forthrightness. And who will ever forget her deep throaty laugh when something struck her fancy? Sandy is survived by her husband, Jerry and her daughter, Jane Kalocinski; her brother, Jim; her son-in-law, Joe Kalocinski and her grandson, Kyle; step daughters, Erin Martin and Shannon; nephews, Kevin, David and Brad Johnson and Kevin’s wife, Susan and daughter, Katy.

A memorial service will take place Saturday, February 23, 2019 at 1:00 pm at the First Unitarian Church of Hobart, corner of East 5th and Main Street.
