Obituary of Sarah Howard HERKIMER – Sarah J. Howard, 95, of Folts Street , Herkimer, passed away on July 21, 2018 at St. Elizabeth’s Medical Center , Utica . She was born on December 29, 1922 in DuBois , Pennsylvania , daughter of the late Glen and Ruth (Kahn) McCloskey. She was educated in East Herkimer and Herkimer schools, graduating Herkimer High School , Class of 1941.
She was married to George O. Howard on January 29, 1943 and Mr. Howard passed away October 21, 1991. Sarah worked as a Stenographer for the Herkimer County Probation Department for 30 years and was a member of the First United Methodist Church . She enjoyed watching the Lawrence Welk Show and loved going to the Turning Stone on Wednesday’s.
She is survived by her son and caregiver, Terry Howard of Herkimer; her daughter, Linda Burton and companion, Donald Burton, of Ilion; her son, George Howard, Jr., of Syracuse; her grandchildren, Kristi Smith, of Frankfort, Linda Burton, of Frankfort, Christina Ceterski (Shane) and Jodi Doss (Greg), of Syracuse; Great-Grandchildren, JR Prentice (Kayla), Justin Prentice, Josh Smith (Cynthia), Shelby Davis, Ashton Davis and Ashley Doss; Great-Great Grandchildren, Alayna, Bentley and Selena; and many numerous relations inclusive to nieces, nephews and cousins; two special friends that were like daughters to her are Angie Oldfield and Denise Brown of Herkimer. She is also survived by her extended family, the Verenich, Donet, Shilo, Zusuhma, Yudchit families with special thanks to Vitaly (Inessa) Verenich and children, Slava (Yelena) Verenich and children, Russ (Nina) Verenich and children, Sergey (Galina) Verenich and children, and Nick (Lilya) Donet and children. She was predeceased by her sister Genevieve “Honey” Treadwell, and brothers Robert, Irvin, and Glen McCloskey.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday July 25, 2018 at 10:00 AM at The Enea Family Funeral Home, 220 North Washington Street in Herkimer with Pastor Joelle Faulks of the First United Methodist Church officiating. Interment will be in Mountain View Memorial Gardens . Calling hours are Tuesday from 4 until 7 PM at the funeral home.
Donations in her memory may be considered to American Diabetes Association. The family extends thanks to two special neighbors and friends, Greg and JoAnn Savas; and to St. Elizabeth’s 3rd Floor Nurses and ICU along with a special thank you to Dr. Kachare for his many years of care.
