Selene Elizabeth Broadway known to many as Betty entered this life on March 26, 1935 in Cheraw, South Carolina, to the late Cornelius Johnson and Francis Johnson. She was the second child of three born of this union. She entered eternal rest at George Washington University Hospital, in Washington, DC.
Betty was preceded in death by her brother, Neal Johnson Jr.; and her sister-n-law Jo Ann Margaret Johnson. On January 10th Betty peacefully transitioned into Heaven. Betty was educated in the District of Columbia school system and furthered her education at the Community College in San Diego, California, where she received her GED and Degree in Mental Health.
She confessed Christ as her personal Savior and was baptized at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the District of Columbia. In November 1964 she married Steve Broadway and soon took on the role of a military wife where new adventures started for her husband and family. As a Navy man Steve took on the responsibilities of ensuring his family a better way of life which included travel to different states, different cultures, and a different lifestyle through military living.
She was a cook at the Naval Dining Facility in Corpus Christi, Texas; she had a career as an Assistant Living Nurse for the Mentally Ill Children at the Great Oak Center, in Montgomery County; she worked as an Assistant LPN for the Elders in Suitland, MD. ; and she was a Cab driver for the Metropolitan Area until she retired, and became a live in adopted grandmother/babysitter, and mother figure to a young woman name Tracy Cuffey loved her dearly. Betty was full of life and well known for her shenanigans and melodramatic personality that kept everyone that knew her laughing for days at her antics or storytelling’s.
She was a real good cook, a loving person and could dance her butt off no matter where it was at whether she was on top of a table or on a dance floor she loved to dance! Then there were times when she would be a crybaby as my Aunt Mary her sister would sometime call her. Betty was well loved and was affectionately known as grandma or Aunt Betty, she didn’t know any stranger everyone she met was always welcome at her home.
Yes she will be dearly Missed! Betty leaves to cherish her loving memories her sister Mary F. Dupree of Washington, DC, her children Terrence M. Broadway of Washington, DC, LaShon B. Bridges (Ather) of Cameron, NC. Yolanda W. Sturdivant (Gary) of Fredericksburg, Va.

Bridges, Dexter Broadway, Daniel Sturdivant, Desmond Maxey, Dillion Sturdivant, Nolia Broadway, Stephen Broadway, Jeremiah Broadway, Jovani and Terrence; Great-Grandchildren, Destiny B. Broadway, Xavier Broadway, Demetrius C. Bridges, Alyssa Lee, Ariana F. Bridges, Mekai Sturdivant, William V. Rose III and one other great-granddaughter; One Great-great granddaughter due any day now; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts, one living uncle and other relatives and friends.
