SHEILA J. SWORDS Sheila Swords, of Bethel Park, Pennsylvania, formerly of North Huntingdon, Pennsylvania, died peacefully on Saturday, September 1, 2018. She was 90 years old. She was preceded in death by her husband, Austin; daughter, Pamela; siblings, Jean Bright, June Galuardi and Robert Houston.

She is survived by her sister-in-law, JoAnne Grosskopf of Bradenton, FL; her children, William (Carol) Swords, Cynthia (Jeffrey) Hirsh & Lisa (Leonard) Mesina; grandchildren, Jessica (Matt) Benzio, Cory (Carine) Swords, Eric (Danielle Wolfe) Hirsh, Bethany (Benjamin) Thomas, Lindsey Mesina & Jack Mesina; great grandchildren, Shalee, Samantha, Lilly, Milo, Braeden, Taylor, Abigail & Landon. Sheila was a homemaker and an excellent cook, baker and seamstress. She was a passionate advocate for developmentally challenged children and adults.

She was a founding member of the Penns Woods United Methodist Church. She was active in the Penns Woods Civic Association and the Irwin AARP Chapter. She loved Birthdays, Christmas, Cardinals, the Pittsburgh Pirates and Bingo.

Friends will be received in the Stephen D. Slater Funeral Home 1701 Route 51 (Large) Jefferson Hills, Pennsylvania on Saturday, September 8, 2018 from 1 – 5 PM. Her funeral service will be in the funeral home at the conclusion of the visitation at 5 PM. The family would like to thank the staff of the 3rd floor at HCR Manor Care in Bethel Park for their compassionate and loving care of those suffering from the effects of Alzheimer’s.
