Shellie Grimes Rush, 41, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Wednesday, October 10, 2018. She was born in Gaston County, NC to the late Judy Carolyn Dowell Grimes. Left to cherish her memories are her children Zachary Rush and Jacob Rush, partner Dale Turnmire, father Donald Grimes Jr, sisters Leslie Grimes, Dana Grimes, Heather Grimes, brother Donald Grimes III and wife Nikki Robbins Grimes, 5 nieces, 8 nephews, and her sweet dog Chloe.

Affectionately known as “Beanie” by her family, Shellie had a zest for life. She worked in the construction trade, enjoyed cooking and eating, and playing sports. She spent her days working side-by-side with her love, Dale.

She never shied away from hard work and loved a challenge. As Dale would say, “She was as tough as woodpecker lips”. Naturally athletic and very competitive, she played volleyball, softball, and basketball at King Mountain High School.

Go Mounties! She was also a cheerleader, a member of the band and Beta Club, and graduated with honors. She enjoyed fishing, exercising, and being outdoors.

A master in the kitchen, she loved to cook for her family and friends. Her specialties included Mom’s potato salad, Aunt Barbara’s pepperoni rolls, and her secret spaghetti recipe that we will all miss. She loved Ruth’s Chris Steakhouse and when she left this world, they lost a faithful patron.

Shellie was known for her lack of patience and her brutal honesty. She would tell the truth even if you did not want to hear it. She did not believe in sugar-coating her words.

Like her mother, you knew where you stood with her and she either liked you or she didn’t. Having said that, if she loved you it was with all her heart and you knew it. She was generous, nurturing, and had a heart of gold.

As a child, Shellie was infatuated with Batman. Eventually, Batman was pushed to the side for the heartthrob Matthew McConaughey. There wasn’t a movie he starred in that she did not go see.

She loved the music of Chris Stapleton and knew every one of his songs by heart. Truly a romantic, her favorite author was Nicholas Sparks. Always a fashionista, Shellie’s signature look was ripped jeans, cute girly shirts, cowboy boots, and lots and lots of rhinestones.

Like most southern girls, she loved clothes, shoes, jewelry, purses, big hair, makeup, and shopping. She was beautiful inside and out. She also loved rainbow flip-flops, waterfalls, lighthouses, trips to the beach or mountains, and clouds that look like cotton candy.

Most of all she loved and adored her sons, Zachary and Jacob. They were her greatest accomplishments in this life and were always in her thoughts and deep within her heart. Like all of us, at times Shellie struggled in her life and lost her way.

She realized that knowing God was the only way to overcome those struggles and she diligently worked to grow in her relationship with him. Throughout her life, she taught us the importance of supporting those you love and the value of second chances. Everyone who remembers Shellie is asked to celebrate her life by telling a funny story or recalling a fond memory of her while spending time with those you love.

A good steak and a beverage of your choice should be part of that celebration.
