Shepard (“Shep”) Bennett, 97, of Vestal, passed away peacefully on December 31. He is survived by his wife, Terri, his son, Mark Bennett (Pat), his daughter, Ricki Bennett, his granddaughter, Sidney Kohls, step-children Michelle Brudi (Arlin), Jennifer Rosario (Anthony), Michael Bullock (Liz), Susan McLaughlin (Bill), Matthew Bullock, his sister Edith Rubin, several step-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, Harry and Sarah Goldstein, his brother, Gerald Goldstein, and his brother-in-law, Julius “Shoey” Rubin.

Shep was born in Brooklyn and fought for our country in World War II in the United States Army Air Corps. After the war, Shep graduated from City College of New York on the G.I. Bill. He also earned an MBA from the University of Scranton.

Shep worked for more than 30 years as an executive at IBM, Owego, where he worked on many of our country’s space programs. Shep also spent many years volunteering in Vestal as an EMT, Vestal Committee member, an ombudsman and a deputy sheriff. Shep was always active in Temple Concord and in his younger days was in many community theater productions.

Shep was a kind and caring man who loved you with his whole heart. He had a wonderful sense of humor and a great wit about him. He will be greatly missed.

Services will be held on Wednesday, January 2nd at Temple Concord, Binghamton. Visitation will be at 10am, funeral services at 11am. Burial will be at West Lawn Cemetery.
