Shirley A. Stanley June 25, 1954 – December 14, 2018 Shirley A. Stanley, 64, of Michigan City, IN passed away surrounded by her family on Friday, December 14, 2018 at Franciscan St Anthony Health Hospital in Michigan City, IN. Shirley was born on June 25, 1954 in Augusta, Arkansas to the late Sammie (Floyd) Coats and Johnnie Coats Jr. To cherish her memory, she leaves behind her daughter, Chasiti Stanley and grandson, Mason Hervey of Michigan City, IN; four sisters, Ruby Coats and Brinda Coats of LaPorte, IN, Marline Coats of Atlanta, GA and Sandra Coats of Lafayette, IN; four brothers, Morris (Anna) Coats of Carmel, IN, and James Coats, Johnnie Coats III and Troy Coats of LaPorte, IN, two half brothers, Herbert Lockhart of Chicago, IL & Jerome Foster (deceased) of Detroit, MI ; nieces, nephews and great-niece and nephews, Nicole Coats, Sky Thomas, Demetrius Coats, Johnnie, Monica and Emily Coats, Nicholas and Zion Greer, James Coats Jr, Drayson Fortenberry, Asa, Ezra, Ira and Nya Thomas, Jerome Foster Jr & Marla Foster. Shirley was also preceded in death by her infant son, Brad Stanley.

Shirley was a train engineer for the South Shore Railroad in Michigan City, IN for more than 20 years. Aside from her job, she worked endlessly on her home and her yard. She had a great work ethic and was determined to accomplish everything she wanted to.

She took great pride in everything she did by herself. She loved cooking and spending time with her family and friends. Shirley was petite in stature, but her energy, sense of humor, determination, loyalty, and love for her family and friends made her larger than all of us.

She had an unforgettable personality and she left a wonderful lasting impression on everyone she met. To meet her … was to love her … and she will be dearly missed. Visitation will be from 5:00 – 8:00 pm on Friday Dec.

21st at Ott/Haverstock Funeral Chapel, 418 Washington St., Michigan City, IN and on Saturday Dec. 22nd from 10-11am at New Hope Baptist Church, 730 W 6th St Michigan City, IN. Celebration of Life will take place at the New Hope Baptist Church at 11 am on Saturday Dec.

22nd. Pastor Curtis Gillespie officiating. Burial will follow in Greenwood Cemetery.
