Shirley’s Obituary LINDSIDE, WV – Shirley Ann Lewis Taylor, age 82, of Lindside, WV, passed away on Monday, December 24, 2018, at the Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital in Roanoke, VA. Born September 29, 1936, in Summerlee, Fayette County, WV, she was the first of four daughters born to Albert Hughes and Violet Ann Ferris Lewis. Albert, a coal miner for twenty plus years, moved the family to Washington, D.C. in 1947.
Shirley attended grade school in Oak Hill and graduated from Burdick Vocational High School in Washington, D.C. in 1956. She was employed with the D.C. Board of Education as a Procurement Clerk until 1966, then as a Library Assistant and Clerk at the Department of Agriculture Research Farm in Beltsville, MD, from 1978 to 1981. A loving and devoted wife and mother, Shirley was an excellent seamstress until arthritis set in.
She was also an avid family history researcher and chronicler, freely sharing with family and other researchers. Shirley was preceded in death by her parents, Albert and Violet Lewis; two sisters, Alice Faye Lewis, and infant Phyllis Jean Lewis. Survivors include her loving husband of 56 years, Carl Jackson Taylor of Lindside, WV; son, Carl Jeffrey Taylor of Lindside, WV; daughter, Sherry Lynn Taylor Counts and husband Gregory Allen Counts of Lindside; son, Kevin Lee Taylor and wife Betty Alice White Taylor of Peterstown, WV; and daughter-in-law, Rebecca Jane Yates of Ballard, WV.
She also was much beloved and will be dearly missed by her sister, Betty Jane Litts of Edinburg, VA; Aunt Dorothy Decicco of NJ; brother-in-law, Walter H. Taylor and wife Oneida of Pipestem, WV; sister-in-law, Carrie P. Yurkovich of Princeton, WV; Lois Ann Taylor of FL; and numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews. Additionally, Shirley Ann has four grandchildren, Joshua Lee Taylor and Alyssa Shires, Justin Ray Taylor and Natasha Amos Taylor, Leah Marie Jane Taylor and Chase Hennessey, and Matthew Curtis Counts; and five great grandchildren, Alyssa Raine Miller, Nicholas Jackson Taylor, Ellie Rose Taylor, Walter James Taylor, Evie Jane Taylor, and another one on the way. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 PM on Friday, December 28, 2018, at the Broyles-Shrewsbury Funeral Home Chapel in Peterstown, WV, with Pastor Dewey Broyles officiating.
Burial will follow at Pine Groves Memorial Gardens in Lindside, WV. Visitation will be from 12:00 PM until time of services on Friday at the funeral home. Online guestbook can be signed or condolences may be sent to the family at www.
