She was born on January 23, 1935 in Detroit to the late Benjamin and Macy (Dew) West. Shirley had previously worked as a private secretary at General Dynamics for many years.

After retirement, Shirley became a homemaker who enjoyed reading and watching her favorite shows. Visitation will be held in the Harold W. Vick Funeral Home, 140 South Main Street, Mount Clemens on Sunday, December 30, 2018 from 1:00p.m. until 4:00p.m. Private burial will be in Forest Lawn Cemetery, Detroit, MI.
