Obituary for Shirley M. Straub Shirley M. Straub, 88, of Rittman, was peacefully called home, as God reached to her and whispered, “your work on earth is done, come with me”, surrounded by her loving family on Thursday, June 28, 2018 at Hospice Care Center in Akron. She was passionate about life, family, neighbors, countless friends and was always faithfully committed to brightening the lives of others. Born on May 1, 1930 in Warren, Ohio to Alfred and Pearle (Dennis) Snell, she was raised on the family farm in Sardis, Ohio during the “era of the great depression” and developed many life skills.

She was fortunate to have compassionate parents and many loving brothers and sisters. She shared many heart touching and meaningful stories of her adventurous childhood. Following graduation from Sardis High School she married Homer E. Straub and they moved to Seville in 1950 where she was supportive in starting the family home building business by helping with much of the daily work.

She worked alongside her husband daily, while raising a family and also worked 10 years in the produce department at Rittman IGA. Full of energy and life, she loved music, playing softball, volleyball, bicycling, quilting, crocheting and was an avid gardener, especially proud of growing her legendary strawberries. She was talented and imaginative at creating personal craft gifts for family and friends every Christmas which was her favorite holiday.

She was a member of the Calvary Baptist Church for more than 50 years where she participated in the church choir and sincerely enjoyed the annual Christmas Cantata. Surviving are her sons, Robert (Judith) Straub of Rittman and Jeff (Sandra) Straub of Sterling; grandchildren, Jeromy, Jason, Justin, Jenna, Jessika and Jillian; and brothers, Warren (Betty) Snell of Texas and Raymond (Carol) Snell of Sardis. She was preceded in death by her parents; daughter, Judy Straub; husband, Homer; brothers, Alfred Snell Jr. and Charles Snell; and sisters, Kathleen Wanchick and Ruth Jones.

A gifted person, she touched the lives of many people who will be deeply missed but never forgotten. We will unite again someday in heaven. May God grant her perfect peace.
