Stanley Ellingson, 78, of Ashby, died Sunday, July 29, 2018, at the Ashby Living Center. He was born on December 23, 1939 in Fergus Falls, MN, the son of Sidney and Edna (Larson) Ellingson. He attended school in Ashby and graduated from Ashby High School.

Stan went on to attend North Dakota State School of Science, where he earned his degree for a career in inspecting road construction projects. On August 28, 1959, Stan was united in marriage to Joanne Nelson at First Presbyterian Church in Ashby. Following their marriage, Joanne and Stanley resided in Ashby on their farm, where they raised their family.

For more than 40 years, Stan worked for the Minnesota Department of Transportation / Highway Department as a road inspector. A true outdoorsman, Stan enjoyed wildlife, hunting, fishing, trapping, and was an avid woodworker. He liked to garden, can vegetables, enjoyed cooking, and loved trying new recipes.

Stan was a member of First Presbyterian Church, Ashby Fire Department, and Coots Unlimited. He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Many in the area will long remember Stanley and Joanne for their Fourth of July and other social gatherings.

Stan is survived by his children, Steve (Brenda) Ellingson of Maple Grove and Susan (Steve) Thorsen of Fergus Falls; five grandchildren, Sonja Ellingson, Samantha Ellingson, Skylar Ellingson, Ashley (Jeremy) Ecker and Ryan Thorsen; two great-grandchildren, Kenley and Kroy; two brothers, Mike (Karen) Ellingson of Sierra Vista, AZ, and Paul (Mary) Ellingson of Ashby; a sister, Janice Ellingson of Ashby; a brother-in-law, Darrell Anderson of Evansville; a brother and sister-in-law, Richard (Rita) Nelson of White Bear Lake; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Joanne; and a sister-in-law, Carolyn Anderson. Visitation: 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM Wednesday, at Glende-Nilson Funeral Home in Ashby, and one hour prior to services at the church.
