Obituary for Stanley Jerome Blom The memorial service for Stanley J. Blom, 72, Kathryn, North Dakota will be 2 pm Tuesday, July 17, 2018 at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Kathryn. Burial will be in St. Paul Cemetery near Kathryn. Stan passed away Thursday, July 12, at the North Dakota Veteran’s Medical Center, Fargo.

Stanley Jerome Blom was born April 2, 1946 to Ernest and Linette (Hellickson) Blom in Valley City, North Dakota. He lived in Kathryn, North Dakota until the age of five, as his as his father was killed in an accident, and his mother then married John Saugstad who farmed north of Kathryn. Stanley graduated from Kathryn High School in 1964.

He attended NDSU before being drafted into the US Army on November 10, 1965. He was discharged on August 14, 1967 and he came back to Kathryn and worked at Kathryn’s Farmer Mutual Elevator. Stanley was united in marriage to Jeannie Salberg on June 5, 1970 in Kathryn.

They made their home north of Kathryn and he later began working for Great Plains Lumber until it closed its doors and he returned to work at the elevator where he eventually was named manager. After the elevator closed Stanley worked for PGA elevator in Enderlin for a couple of years before retiring. He was the former mayor of Kathryn, a member of the Kathryn Fire Department; he had served on the school board and Nelson Township board and was a member of the VFW.

Stanley loved his hat, boots and horses…in that order. He also enjoyed his four grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his father and mother, his step father, a brother, Rick Blom and a sister, Cyndy Zaun.

Stanley is survived by his wife, Jeannie Blom; two daughters and their families, Lisa (Jarry) Lautt and children, Kalli & Kodi; and Kristi (Brian) Anderson and children, Kasen & Kelby all of Fort Ransom, North Dakota. He is also survived by a sister, Denise (Dave)Majerus and bother-in –law, Dale Zaun. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the care of the Oliver-Nathan Funeral Chapel, Valley City.
