Obituary for Joyce Maxine Greene Joyce Maxine Greene, 73, Valley City, ND passed away surrounded by her family at Sanford Hospital in Fargo, ND on November 28th, 2018. Joyce was born on October 13th, 1945 in Maddock, ND to Melvin and Olga (Ness) Hjelden. She attended and graduated from Minnewaukan High School.

She was united in marriage to James Greene on June 13th, 1969 in Kindred, ND, where they resided with their three children. While living in Kindred, Joyce provided care to migrant children. She went to work at Peterson’s Grocery Store where she had many fun adventures with her co-workers.

Jim and Joyce moved to Valley City in 1978, where she became employed by Foss Drug, then Mercy Hospital as a Certified Nurse’s Assistant. In 1996, Jim’s work brought them to Fargo, ND where she continued her love of caring for people at Bethany Nursing Home. In 2002, they retired and moved back to Valley City.

Joyce found great joy in attending sporting and music events of her grandchildren. She loved baking, fishing, working in her gardens, and the Minnesota Twins and Vikings. Joyce is survived by her loving husband Jim and children Tina Nilsen, Valley City; Todd (Melissa) Greene, Fargo; Tonya (Jim) Breckheimer, Valley City; grandchildren, John (Jenna) Nilsen, Nichole Nilsen, Brianna Sowers, Brandon Breckheimer, and Brooke Breckheimer; great grandchildren Weston and Whitney Nilsen.

Joyce is also survived by five brothers and three sisters, Mavis (Glen) Overby; Clarice Cramer; Myron Hjelden, Ardis (Curtis) Christianson, Rodney (Diane) Hjelden, Jerry Hjelden, David (Mary) Hjelden, Jim (Audrey) Hjelden, and brother-in-law Kenneth Bonn, and numerous nieces and nephews. Joyce is preceded in death by her parents Melvin and Olga Hjelden; sister Janice Bonn; nephews Danny Overby, Cory Hjelden, niece Sandy Mattson, and mother and father-in-law Lawrence and Rosie Greene. A special thank you to her caregivers from Mercy Hospital, Valley City; Sanford Hospital, Fargo; Dr. Goven and City County Health, Valley City.

The family will greet friends at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church, Valley City, from 6-7 pm Thursday, December 6 with a prayer service at 7 pm. The funeral service will be 2 pm Friday at the church. Burial will be in Memory Gardens, Valley City.
