Born on September 23, 1936 in Bergan, Norway, he was the son of the late Richard Johansen and Oddbjorg Marie Svaseter Johansen. He worked as a security officer for the Norwegian Embassy until retirement.

Surviving is his wife, Charlotte W. (Lyles) Johansen. A memorial service will be held at a later date and arrangements are being handled by McKee Funeral Home, Augusta, WV.
