OBITUARY Stephen Paul Gyland, MD November 18, 1926 – December 24, 2018 Dr. Stephen Paul Gyland was joined with his Lord and Savior, on December 24th, 2018. Dr. Gyland was born in Tampa, Florida on November, 18 th, 1926, to Stephen Peder Gyland M. D., and wife Ruth Stephani Gyland. Dr. Stephen P. Gyland met his “beautiful, blonde” wife Rosellen Clayton Gyland at Chapel Hill, University of North Carolina, where he received his B.S. in Chemistry, and she received her B.S. in Bacteriology.

They were married 5 days after graduation, on June 14th, 1947. Dr. Gyland graduated from Vanderbilt Medical School with honors, and relocated to New Orleans, where he completed his internship and residency training in pediatrics at Charity Hospital. His training was interrupted by 2 years of service in the U.S. Air Force, where he served in Germany as a Flight Surgeon with the rank of Captain.

In 1957, he settled in Jacksonville, Florida and entered private practice with Dr. James C. Lanier. They built a flourishing practice for over 40 years. In addition to medicine, he was a devout Christian, who led many souls to Christ and ministered all over the world.

He was known as an avid fisherman, and a “fisher of men”. He was active in Full Gospel Businessmen’s Fellowship, and Campers for Christ. He and his wife led a non-profit ministry called Operation Blessing, which supported a Food Bank, Suicide Hotline, Clothing Distribution and Adoption Services.

Dr. Gyland and his wife also co-hosted a television show and subsequent radio show called “Health and Happiness”. He also recently retired from the position of Medical Director of Welcome Home Care. Dr. Gyland is survived by his wife Rose, and six children: Stephen Paul Gyland Jr. and wife Nancy Gyland; Virginia A. Gyland-Howard; David Eugene Gyland; Kathi Ellen Gyland; Carol Gyland Lightfoot and husband Robert Lightfoot; and M. Nels Gyland and wife Elizabeth Gyland.

He is also survived by 19 grandchildren, 19 great grandchildren and 1 great-great grandson. Funeral Services will be held at Neptune Baptist Church (407 Third Street, Neptune Beach, FL 32266) on Wednesday, Jan. 2nd, at 10:30 am.
